The new movie Columbus, set against the backdrop of largely unknown Columbus, Indiana, is a moving portrayal of the influence thoughtful architecture can bring to a place, something the city is thinking about off-screen today.
Columbus has long been recognized by the design cognoscenti for its concentration of buildings by important architects of the post-WWII era. Now, the city of approximately 46,000, about a four-hour drive south of Chicago, is looking to amplify its profile as a magnet for design enthusiasts and practitioners.
Art critics have experienced little trouble labeling Henry Moore with a variety of superlatives. Labeling much of his abstract work, however, can be a challenge. That could serve as a fine conversation starter at the third annual, local Henry Moore Birthday Party in Columbus.
