About
Ana Meza is a sculpture artist born in Colombia and based in Columbus, Indiana. She draws inspiration from design, patterns, and structures like buildings, bridges, stairs, and ladders. Her work is characterized by delicate three-dimensional lines. Through interaction with a complex system of dots, these lines expand into space defining volume. She uses PLA plastic, commonly used in CNC 3D printing. Meza uses a 3D pen to create delicate sculptures by hand, balancing craft and technology. Meza explores the relationship between line, plane, space, and volume. Her use of patterns draws on design and architecture. At the same time, her conceptual investigation of tension, fragility, spatial relations, and optical effects draws on psychology.
Meza holds a Bachelor of Interior Architecture and Sculpture degree from Indiana University as well as an MFA from Georgia State University. She is currently an Instructional Shop Manager and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the J. Irwin Miller Architecture program. She has taught at Georgia State University and Mercer University. Her most notable exhibition venues include Newfields Museum, Minnetrista Museum, Eiteljorg Museum, Atlanta Contemporary, Aqua Art Miami, and Kyoto International Community House in Japan.
